Playmakers shine in Plano 7-on-7 tournament
This past Saturday, the 7-on-7 state qualifying tournament at Plano featured some of the best talent that the state has to offer. It also featured some quality football as Rockwall Heath defeated Plano West 32-28 to win the championship at John Clark Stadium.
The championship came down the final minute of play when Heath quarterback Drew Hollingshead hit Kendial Lawrence for a 40-yard completion to set up the go-ahead shuttle pass to Lawrence for the winning touchdown. It was a fitting end for Heath after bulldozing its way through the entire tournament. Heath didn't drop a game in pool play, picking up wins over Dallas Jesuit, Plano East and Arlington Martin on its way to the semifinal round.
There, Rockwall Heath beat Dallas Skyline while Plano West topped South Grand Prairie during the semifinals to advance to the final game and earn berths in the state tournament in College Station in July.
