Notes: Married with a son. Parade All-American who totaled 7,220 yards and 127 touchdowns while leading Indianapolis Warren Central to four state championships. Redshirted in 2007. In '08, the departure of Branden Ore and injuries forced him up from fourth on the depth chart and he responded by starting 9-of-14 games and toting 287 times for 1,265 yards (4.4-yard average) and 11 TDs. Added 17 catches for 117 yards (6.9) and zero TDs. Tore his left ACL during '09 fall camp and sat out the season. Started 9-of-14 games in '10 - yielded starts to Ryan Williams - and rushed 151-854-11 (5.7) with 9-100-0 (11.1) receiving.
Positives: Very good size. Shifty and can pick and slide. Opens up his stride in space. Runs hard and likes contact - will drop his shoulder and power through tackles. Flashes an effective stiff-arm. Good awareness as a blocker to see and react to blitzers. Reliable hands out of the backfield. Productive when healthy.
Negatives: Not a home-run hitter - average speed and explosiveness. Gathers to cut and does not show an extra gear. Not loose-hipped or elusive in the hole. Cannot create on his own. Runs tall and can do a better job lowering his pads. Can be more physical as a blocker.
Summary: A good-sized, straight-linish back with good run strength, Evans was a bellcow as a redshirt freshman before a torn ACL cost him a season, allowing for the emergence of two more-talented backs. Average speed and burst limits his ceiling as a complementary big back.
